Axial V centers in polycrystals were studied by using electron paramagnetic resonance. A paramagnetic S- ion arose near to an alkaline metal ion which substituted for a cation of the host lattice when a hole produced by X-rays at 77K was captured. The centers were observed at 10 to 25K. The superhyperfine structures arising from a 23Na nucleus and a 7Li nucleus were observed. The parameters (g-tensor, A-tensor, thermal decay) of the V centers were determined.
