The relative difference between the average dislocation densities of 6061Al-15vol%SiC composites was investigated by using 2 independent methods (hardness, differential scanning calorimetry). The results were interpreted in terms of the so-called actual temperature at which the measurements were made using each technique. The present analysis accounted for the high microstructural stability of such composites at high temperatures.
