Molecular dynamics simulations of the shock response of monocrystalline Cu were modelled by using an embedded atom potential that reproduced both defect formation and high-pressure behavior. Shock-induced plasticity was also considered. The goal of the simulations was to study the mechanisms responsible for the formation of vacancy-He clusters which served as He bubble and void nuclei in fusion reactor materials.
