Pd–Ag alloy coated V-15Ni composite membranes were prepared by the co-sputtering of separate pure Pd and Ag targets using a direct-current multi-target sputtering system where the voltage for each target could be controlled independently. The film composition was controlled by changing the target voltage. The H permeation characteristics of as-prepared composite membranes were investigated by using the gas permeation technique at 423 to 673K. The H permeation of the composite membranes was mainly bulk-diffusion limited at above 473K. At 473K or below, the H permeability of the composite membranes increased for Ag contents of up to 30at%.
