Sectioning techniques were used to study the diffusion of Cd2+ ions in commercial-purity single crystals. It was found that the diffusivity increased with increasing Cd2+ concentration, and reached a saturation value at mole fractions of 10-5 to 10-4. The saturation diffusivity of 109Cd at temperatures ranging from 277 to 520C could be described by:

D (cm2/s) = 2.06 x 10-2 exp[-21.25(kcal/mol)/RT]
