The optical properties of single-layer and multi-stack CdSe/ZnSe self-assembled quantum-dot heterostructures were investigated. It was found that quantum-dots at the interface could accumulate cation vacancy-related defects. In this case, the defect level was associated with the quantized heavy-hole level of the quantum-dots. It was shown that study of the excitation spectra of the defect-related band permitted the obtention of information concerning optical transitions in quantum-dots.
