The kinetics of oxidation of Ni by VCl3 in the fused halide chloride were investigated by using the rotating disc method. The oxidation of Ni was diffusion-dependent under the conditions investigated. The rates of diffusional transport of V3+ to the specimen surface, and the diffusion coefficients of V3+, were deduced from the experimental Ni oxidation rates. The results, for temperatures ranging from 1103 to 1254K, were found to be described by:
log[D (cm2/s)] = 1.0326 – 5800/T(K)
