The C-vacancy ordering in the Re-based solid solution, (Cr1-xRex)2C1-y, was investigated by applying X-ray and neutron diffraction techniques to (Cr0.7Re0.3)2C0.9; quenched from the as-cast state, as well as from 800C. A structural order–disorder transformation was observed, with substitution of Re for Cr. The type of C-vacancy order for (Cr0.7Re0.3)2C0.9 [a = 0.49281, c = 0.44774nm] corresponded to ε’ W2C-type (P¯31m).
