The advantages and disadvantages of existing experimental procedures for the investigation of interdiffusion in multi-component systems were considered. Particular attention was paid to methods which involved diffusion couples with intersecting diffusion paths, and the analysis of zero-flux planes, flux reversals and diffusion paths. These methods were illustrated with regard to experimental data on the Cu-Ni-Fe system. It was concluded that the methodological basis of interdiffusion experiments required further improvement.
