The mobility of Ag atoms adsorbed on Ag(110) was studied by means of energy-resolved He-atom scattering at 300 to 750K. Above 600K, adsorbed atoms diffusing along the <1¯10> azimuthal direction were detected. Information about the diffusion process was obtained by investigating the evolution of the quasi-elastic peak broadening with parallel momentum transfer and with temperature. In particular, the main diffusion mechanism was identified and the diffusion coefficient and effective diffusion barrier were measured. The results were compared with the corresponding estimations resulting from molecular dynamics calculations.
