The effects of electron irradiation upon icosahedral Al70.2Pd21.3Mn8.5 quasicrystals were investigated by making simultaneous measurements of positron lifetime and 2-detector coincident Doppler broadening spectra at room temperature. Irradiation-induced vacancies could be detected via more sensitive coincident Doppler broadening measurements of the positron-electron annihilation photon line, in addition to structural vacancies.
