The basic equations coupling stress and H diffusion were derived. A numerical simulation method was proposed which was based upon a diffusion equation that included a hydrostatic stress-gradient term, and upon a discretisation of the H concentration field. The simulation scheme was applied to elementary dislocation configurations in order to determine the effect of solute H on dislocation interactions. A simple and general expression was derived for H screening effects on pair interactions between co-planar dislocations. This expression was used to investigate the influence of diffusing H upon the cross-slip probability of screw dislocations.
