On the basis of the room-temperature 57Fe Mössbauer spectra of Fe-based Fe-Cr solid solutions which had been quenched from various temperatures, it was suggested that 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy could be successfully applied to the study of thermally generated defects in the Fe-Cr system. By using the technique, it was possible to investigate both Schottky vacancies as well as possible thermal distortion of the lattice.
