The motion of a straight edge dislocation or a kinked screw dislocation in body-centered cubic Mo, as described by the Finnis-Sinclair potential, was studied for periodic simulation cells which were subjected to an applied shear stress. An estimate was made of the local driving force due to image interactions. The preliminary results showed that, at low temperatures, the edge dislocation moved mainly via kink nucleation whereas the mobility of the screw dislocation was strongly aided by the presence of a kink.
