The dependence of effective interdiffusion coefficients upon the misfit between film and substrate was studied, for double polycrystalline thin films, by using X-ray analysis. The substrates were Ag, Au, Pd-Ag or Pd-Au, and the film was Pd. The magnitude of the misfit was changed by changing the Pd concentration of the substrate. It was established that the decrease in misfit, from 4.9 to 0.94%, led to a decrease in the effective diffusion coefficients in the Pd film by several orders of magnitudes.
