The results of existing simulations were reviewed; especially with regard to similarities between dislocation dynamics simulations and highly simplified discrete models. The similarities suggested that the scaling laws derived from discrete models could provide a powerful way of interpreting dislocation motion in more realistic simulations. A method was presented for estimating the average super-kink creation probability within a simple line-tension approximation. The application of this method demonstrated that the results of discrete models and continuum simulations were consistent.
