A set of 12 vibrational absorption lines was measured, in liquid-encapsulated Czochralski grown material, in the frequency range of 500 to 1150/cm. They originated from a single defect. It was shown that this defect was a [N-O] complex which consisted of several N and O atoms. The complex was characteristic of GaP which was produced by using the liquid-encapsulated Czochralski technique under high-N inert gas pressure conditions.
