Although there were many calculations of the structures of the self-interstitial in Si and small aggregates of interstitials, In, there was little attempt to relate the defects with experimental data. The assignments of the self-interstitial to the AA12 electron paramagnetic resonance centre, and the tri-interstitial and tetra-interstitial to the W-optical centre and the B3 electron paramagnetic resonance centre, respectively, were considered. Difficulties in the assignment of I2 to the P6 electron paramagnetic resonance centre were also noted.
