It was found that the values of the effective activation energy and pre-exponential factor for diffusion in the glassy and deeply supercooled liquid regions obeyed the same correlation as that for conventional metallic glasses: that is, Do = Aexp[Q/B], where A was equal to 4.8 x 10-19m2/s and B was equal to 0.056eV/atom. A possible explanation for these values was supplied by combining an activation energy and a free-volume term. This interpretation implied the operation of a cooperative mechanism for diffusion in the glassy and deeply supercooled liquid states.
