The mixed mobile ion effect in fluoride glasses was considered. Here, anions as well as cations contributed to diffusion processes; unlike mixed alkali oxide glasses and crystals. Evidence in favor of this effect occurring in fluoride glasses was provided. The phenomenon was associated with the low dimensionality of diffusion pathways in mixed alkali fluoride glasses, as compared with single alkali glasses.
