Composites were prepared which contained up to 25mol% of α-Al2O3 as a dispersed phase, and the conductivities were measured at 400 to 700C by using the direct-current 4-probe method. Dispersions of up to 5m/o of α-Al2O3 were found to enhance the conductivity of pure CaF2. The conductivities were 2 orders of magnitude higher than those of pure CaF2, and depended upon the preparation method. The maximum conductivity values were observed for 2.5m/o of α-Al2O3. The composites appeared to be purely ionic conductors.
