Fast ionic solids were prepared in the system, xCdI2-(1-x)(Ag2O-WO3) with x = 20 to 80, by means of solid-state reaction. Powder samples were characterized by using X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infra-red spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and Ag-ion transport-number methods. This revealed the existence of AgI, and various phases, in the system. Transport-number measurements, performed by means of Wagner’s polarization technique and the EMF method, showed that Ag ions could be responsible for the ionic transport which was observed in these newly-formed solid phases.
