The phenomenological theory of the deformation bleaching of coloration in alkali halide crystals was considered. Expressions were derived for the dislocation capture probability of F-center electrons in alkali halide crystals, and for the generation rate of electrons in the dislocation band. On the basis of the generation rate of dislocation electrons and their subsequent recombination with hole centers, deep traps and other traps (including deformation-generated ones), an expression was derived, for deformation bleaching, which indicated an exponential decrease in the density of F-centers with deformation of the crystal. Good agreement was found between theoretical and experimental results. The value of the effective radius of interaction of dislocations with F-centers was estimated and was found to be equal to 1.95b, 2.00b, 1.33b and 1.70b for KCl, KBr, NaCl and NaBr, respectively, where b was the Burgers vector.
