Experimental results were presented concerning defect creation by ionizing radiation, as well as by ultra-violet light with energies below the band-gap, that involved the same 420nm emission. It was found that the F and Fz centers were clearly related to the thermoluminescence glow curve. The results revealed a similar origin for thermoluminescence and optical-stimulated luminescence, and suggested the existence of a non-excitonic mechanism which was involved in defect creation by ultra-violet non-ionizing radiation.
