A new Ag+-ion conducting 2-phase composite system: (1-x)[0.75AgI,0.25AgCl]-xSiO2, with x between 0 and 50mol%, was studied. Nano-sized (8nm) particles of insulating and insoluble SiO2 were used as a dispersoid, while a new compound, quenched/annealed (0.75AgI,0.25AgCl) solid solution was used as the host matrix instead of AgI. The composition 0.9(0.75AgI,0.25AgCl]-0.1SiO2, exhibited the greatest enhancement (10-fold) in room-temperature conductivity with respect to that of the host. This material exhibited a room-temperature conductivity of about 0.001S/cm.
