The degree of first-stage coloration of Pb2+-doped samples of KCl1−xBrx was investigated as a function of dose rate and impurity concentration. At a dose-rate of 12.88kGy/h, the F color center production was independent of the Pb2+ content and varied according to the KCl/KBr ratio. Typical stages were observed at a ratio of 1:1. If the dose rate was less than 3.22kGy/h, the coloration production depended upon the Pb2+ content.
