The dihydrate, SnCl2(OH2)▪H2O, and the lesser known, SnCl3▪SnCl(OH2)2▪H2O, were compared with particular regard to properties connected with protonic conduction, such as the H-bonded network and proton nuclear magnetic resonance. A similarity between the 2 hydrates, with regard to the H-bonded network, was noticed but no phase transition was detected in the lower hydrate.
