Transmission electron microscopic observations were made of dislocations, with (010) habit planes, in the complex intermetallic alloy: ξ-Al–Pd–Mn. Contrast-extinction experiments showed that the Burgers vectors of the dislocations were parallel to the [010] direction; thus revealing that they were prismatic edge dislocations. Their movement took place via pure climb. The [010] dislocations were split into 2 pairs of partials. It was proposed that the Burgers vector length of the full dislocations was 16.56Å, and that of the individual partials was 4.14Å.
