Single crystals of the electrolyte were colored with I vapor, and the diffusion coefficients of the color centers were measured by using optical absorption techniques. The rate of migration of the coloration was much higher than that of a 131I tracer (with a diffusivity of 10-11cm2/s at 145C) and was described by:

D (cm2/s) = 0.02163 exp[-0.328(eV)/kT]
