Continuum predictions of dislocation emission from a crack tip, loaded under mode-I biaxial conditions, were compared with atomistic results for body-centered cubic Fe. The simulations confirmed the continuum prediction that, as the T-stress increased, so did the threshold for dislocation nucleation. The tendency to exhibit a brittle response therefore increased.
