The transformation of lattice defects in γ-TiAl, upon intersection by deformation twins, was studied. A faulted dipole was chopped so as to form a dislocation loop that was faulted on the cube plane of the twin. Faulted dipoles and twin loops could shrink at different rates. Dislocations with ½<110] and <011] Burgers vectors, gliding on octahedral planes, were transformed into configurations with a low mobility on {010} planes. A pole mechanism was proposed for twin growth at forest dislocations.
