A variational approach to the microscopic kinetics of an interacting lattice gas was presented. It accounted for the equilibrium correlations in the system and permitted the derivation of an algebraic expression for the particle density (coverage) dependent chemical diffusion coefficient for a wide range of interaction models. A detailed derivation was presented for a 1-dimensional case, and the results were compared with those of Monte Carlo simulations.
