A unified theory was constructed for the relationships, in plane homogeneous isotropic linear elasticity, between dislocations, thermo-elasticity, inclusions and variations in the Poisson ratio. It was shown how solutions in one theory could be used to generate solutions in another. The connection between dislocations and variations in the Poisson ratio, and between dislocations and thermo-elasticity, were associated with Filon and Mushkelishvili, respectively.
