It was recalled that 2 fundamental behaviors could be observed when dislocations interacted with motionless point defects. These were a thermally activated behavior and an athermal behavior. It was shown here that these 2 behaviors could be consistently explained by a so-called Brownian picture of the motion of dislocations interacting with point defects that were distributed at various distances from the dislocation glide-plane.
