A dislocation model which combined the Peierls-Nabarro and Galerkin methods was formulated within the framework of the finite element technique. Complex boundary conditions, dynamic problems and complex dislocation structures could be treated without any loss in the description of the dislocation core structure. It was shown that the model reduced to the Peierls-Nabarro and phase field techniques at specific limits. The example of a fast moving dislocation, dissociated into Shockley partials, was given.
