The probability distribution of the internal shear stress generated by systems of straight parallel edge dislocations was studied. The stress distribution functions of randomly distributed dipoles and walls were calculated analytically. The stress distribution function of relaxed systems was also calculated analytically; assuming relaxed configurations to be made up of uncorrelated perfect dipoles and walls. The resulting relaxed stress distribution function was compared with numerical simulations.
