The sole carrier in these glasses was the I ion, as deduced from the emf of I2 gas concentration cells and the electrical properties. The ionic conductivity increased with increasing I content of the glass. The conductivities for glass plates were about an order of magnitude higher than those for pellets which were prepared from glass powder. A maximum conductivity of 4.5 x 10-7S/cm at 373K was found for PbI2-31PbO-10SiO2.
