The inelastic neutron scattering technique was used to study the diffusion of H in α Pd. The H pressure was 5atm, and the concentration varied from H/Pd = 0.04 to 0.02 as the temperature was varied from 582 to 704K (table 107). It was shown that diffusion occurred via jumps between adjacent octahedral interstitial sites. The observed variation in the residence time, as a function of temperature, indicated an activation energy of 3.7kcal/g-atom.
