Diffusion processes in ordered structures were modelled by using Monte Carlo and static relaxation methods. The results permitted deductions to be made concerning the existence of a new diffusion mechanism; the so-called dynamic pair mechanism. The latter was typical of ordered structures. On the basis of the results, a comparative analysis was made of all of the known diffusion mechanisms for ordered structures. It was concluded that the dynamic pair mechanism was relevant to known mechanisms in intermetallic compounds.
