Ion transport in nano-sized systems was considered in a top-down approach. The equilibrium charge carrier concentrations were investigated as a function of the distance between neighboring interfaces and increased curvature of the grains. A variety of experimental examples involving accumulation, depletion and inversion layers were highlighted the significance of the nano-regime for solid-state ionics.
