Recent results had shown that different methods to obtain line integrals for the energies of dislocation loops, and, by extension, of arbitrary dislocation configurations, gave different results when a constant core cut-off parameter was used. It was shown that a self-consistent choice of different cut-off parameters for the different methods removed the disparity in energy. The choice of cut-off parameter was considered within the context of core-core interactions; important in the correlation of elastic estimates of energies with atomistic results.
