An unsteady-state gas-liquid metal diffusion cell technique was used to determine the rates of absorption of H in stagnant liquid Fe and in several binary alloys. The rates were found to be controlled by the diffusion of H in the liquid phase, thus permitting the Arrhenius parameters to be calculated, giving:

1550-1680C:     D (cm2/s) = 4.37 x 10-3 exp[-4.134(kcal/mol)/RT]
