The diffusion of Ni (0 to 4.84wt%) in molten C-saturated Fe was measured by using the capillary reservoir method at 1350 to 1550C. The results could be described by:
D (cm2/s) = 4.92 x 10-3 exp[-16.2(kcal/mol)/RT]
A correlation was found between the diffusivity and the thermodynamic interaction of the diffusing element with the solvent, as expressed by the standard free energy of solution of the element in molten C-saturated Fe.
