The interdiffusion of Mn in various steels, with 17 to 18Cr and 10 to 16wt%Ni, was studied at 1000 to 1300C (table 91) by using the Boltzmann-Matano and Grube techniques. The results were found to be independent of concentration at up to 2wt%Mn. Small variations in the Cr and Ni contents had a negligible effect upon Mn diffusion. It was found that the results could be described by:

D (m2/s) = 4.2 x 10-6 exp[-265(kJ/mol)/RT]
