It was recalled that, during the plastic deformation of crystalline material, dislocations - being the carriers of plastic flow - tended to form various patterns. Because of the long-range nature of dislocation-dislocation interactions, the origin of this self-ordering phenomenon was still an open question. A stochastic 2-dimensional model was derived here; directly from the properties of individual dislocations. This made it possible to investigate the problem at the mesoscopic scale. The numerical results which were obtained for a double slip configuration indicated the development of a cell structure having fractal characteristics.
