Intergrowths, stacking faults and dislocations were investigated by transmission electron microscopy in (Hg,Re)Ba2Ca2Cu3O8+δ and HgBa2CaCu2O6+δ bulk superconductors. The stacking fault vectors and the Burgers vectors of partial edge dislocations associated with the nucleation or the annihilation of [Ca-CuO2] bilayers in the unit cells of both compounds were derived by different methods. The influence of uniaxial stresses upon intergrowth propagation, and the mechanisms which yielded strain relaxation around intergrowths, were considered.
