The bulk self-diffusion of 51Cr and 59Fe in face-centered cubic alloys was measured by using the modified Gruzin method at 1298 to 1548K in the case of Fe and at 1286 to 1536K in the case of Cr. The concentration dependence (table 178) could not be expressed as a simple mathematical relationship; it exhibited a local minimum near to the composition, Ni-25Fe-20wt%Cr. Analysis of the present, and past, results showed that the ratio of the self-diffusion coefficients was:
DNi:DFe:DCr = 1:1.2:2
over the present temperature and composition ranges. From thermodynamic activity measurements, values of the thermodynamic diffusion factors in the ternary system and further values of the interdiffusion coefficients were calculated.
