Thin MgB2 films were produced on Al2O3(00▪1) and MgO(100) substrates. Thin B films were deposited by electron-beam evaporation, followed by post-annealing in Mg. The correct post-annealing conditions for growing good superconducting MgB2 thin films were investigated. The X-ray diffraction patterns revealed randomly oriented growth of MgB2 phase in the thin films. The surface morphology was examined by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The JC measured by using the transport method was about 107A/cm2 at 15K, and TC was ~39K for MgB2 thin films on Al2O3.
