Superconducting MgB2/Ta tapes, with a critical temperature of 38K, were prepared by using a 2-step method. The B/Ta tapes were fabricated by electrophoresis, followed by post-annealing in Mg vapor. The critical current density was 1.7 x 104A/cm2 in zero field at 5K. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis revealed a dense flat surface with (101)-oriented growth of the MgB2 phase in MgB2/Ta tapes.
