A simplified model for yield strength contributions was presented and was used to obtain dislocation densities by determining the orientation factors, as obtained from electron back-scattering diffraction. One alloy, subjected to 3 cold-rolling reductions (10%, 40%, 90%) was analysed by electron back-scattering diffraction, and the density of dislocations was estimated by using the strengthening model. This assessment suggested that dislocation densities predicted by the Taylor model were roughly consistent, but slightly lower than those determined using transmission electron microscopy.
